WINNIPEG, June 1 (CNS Canada) – Cereal production in the European Union will be lower than earlier thought, with the largest revision in barley due to drought conditions in Spain, according to updated estimates from the European Commission.

Total EU barley production for 2017/18 is now forecast at 59.6 million tonnes, which compares with an earlier forecast of 62.4 million tonnes and the year-ago level of 59.6 million.

Corn and wheat production were also revised lower, to 64.2 million tonnes and 141.3 million tonnes respectively. However, those two crops are still forecast to end up above the 2016/17 levels.
