     WINNIPEG, December 21 – The Canadian dollar finished lower
against its US counterpart Wednesday, tracking losses in crude
oil and gold.
     The Canadian dollar closed at C$0.7459 or US$1.3407,
compared to Tuesday’s close of C$0.7481 or US$1=C$1.3367.
     The S&P/TSX Composite Index finished slightly higher on
Wednesday. The market took strength from industrials which led
seven of Toronto’s 12 major subgroups higher.
     On the other side, health-care fell by nearly a percentage
point.
     The index rose 12.93 points or 0.08% to 15,305.89.
     Canada’s agricultural sector performed as follows:
     AGT Food and Ingredients—–up  $ 0.24    at $ 35.50
     Agrium Incorporated———-dn  $ 1.05    at $133.84
     Buhler Industries————up  $ 0.24    at $  4.75
     Maple Leaf Foods————-dn  $ 0.02    at $ 27.95
     Potash Corp. of Sask———dn  $ 0.29    at $ 24.12
