Two certified organic dairy farms in Manitoba have launched their product to grocery stores in the province.

Guelph, Ont.-based organic co-op Organic Meadow is working with processor Notre Dame Creamery at Notre Dame de Lourdes, about 70 km southwest of Portage la Prairie, Man., to process and distribute the milk to natural-food and mainline grocery stores in Manitoba.

Organic Meadow on Tuesday launched the two farms’ milk in one- and two-litre jugs of skim, one per cent, two per cent and 3.8 per cent.

The supplying farms are members of the Manitoba Organic Milk Co-operative (MOMs): Zacland Dairy of Winkler, owned by Conrad and Val Zacharias, and Larry and Sue Black’s farm at Deloraine.

Greater feed efficiency in calves possible through controlled creep feeding

Gerard Roney, founder of Advantage Feeders in Australia, spoke at Ag in Motion 2025 about using controlled creep feeding to develop a calf’s rumen, allowing for better uptake of energy and protein at a younger age.

“This is a great day for the Manitoba agricultural community, for our two debuting organic farmers, and for consumers in general who now have nutritious organic milk produced and packaged locally,” said Ted Zettel, chairman of Organic Meadow, in a release.

“We look forward to welcoming additional farms on board in future and continuing to satisfy the needs of more and more Canadians from right here in Manitoba.”

“To see the end of the long process of going organic with the launch of our Organic Meadow milk for Manitoba is extremely satisfying and makes this long journey all the more rewarding,” Conrad Zacharias, who’s also president of MOMs, said in the same release.
