Canadian Financial Close: Loonie down, TSX up

WINNIPEG, April 10 (MarketsFarm) – The Canadian dollar was down slightly at market close on Wednesday, while the Toronto Stock Exchange was up.

The dollar finished Wednesday at US$0.7504 or US$1=C$1.3326, which compares with Tuesday’s close of US$0.7510 or C$1.3316.

The TSX was down 59.84 points on Wednesday to finish at 16,396.29 points, following the markets in the United States.

With progress in U.S./China trade talks today, gains were made on the Dow Jones, NASDAQ and the S&P 500. Trade negotiators agreed to open ‘enforcement offices’ in each other’s countries.

That provided the S&P500 with a gain of 10.01 points to end Wednesday at 2,888.21 points. The NASDAQ increased by 54.97 points to finish at 7,964.24. The Dow Jones inched upward 6.58 points to close at 26,157.16 points.

Benchmark oil prices were stronger on Wednesday following news that U.S. gasoline stocks are down and Venezuela plagued with oil production issues.

Brent crude oil gained 99 cents to close at US$71.60 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 49 cents to close at US$64.47 per barrel.

Gold was up US$3.50 on Wednesday to US$1,308.60 per ounce.

Rocky Mountain Dealerships Inc. unchanged at $ 9.27
