WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar was softer Friday morning, as the currency reacted to the latest North American jobs data.
At 8:40 CDT Friday morning the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7633 or C$1.3101 which compares with Thursday’s North American close of US$0.7658 or C$1.3059.
Canadian jobs data for June failed to live up to expectations, with Statistics Canada reporting net job losses of 2,200 in the month. U.S. employment numbers surprised the other way, with more nonfarm jobs added to than had been expected.
Early weakness in crude oil also weighed on the energy-linked currency.
The TSX was weaker Friday morning, down 86.88 points at 9:40 CDT to sit at 16,501.97.
