WINNIPEG, Oct. 7 (MarketsFarm) – The Canadian dollar was stronger Thursday morning, as gains in international equity markets hinted at an increasing appetite for risk in the global economy.
Positioning ahead of a speech from Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem later in the day was a feature.
At 9:20 a.m. CDT Thursday morning, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7953 or US$1=C$1.2574 which compares with Wednesday’s North American close of US$0.7928 or US$1=C$1.2613.
The gains in the currency came despite a softer tone in crude oil, as energy prices continued to see some profit-taking after recent strength.
West Texas Intermediate was down 1.1 per cent at US$76.59 per barrel.
The TSX was stronger, up 197.08 points at 9:20 CDT, trading at 20,388.74 points.
