WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar rallied once again on Friday as it approaches the 80 United States cent mark.
As of 8:42 a.m. CDT, the loonie was at US$0.7960 or US$1=C$1.2563, compared to US$0.7938 or US$1=C$1.2597 on Thursday.
The U.S. Dollar Index was up 0.09 of a point to 101.92. U.S. employers added 390,000 jobs in May while the unemployment rate stayed at 3.6 per cent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Crude oil prices were slightly higher on Friday after OPEC+ announced on Thursday it will raise crude oil production by 648,000 barrels per day. Brent crude oil gained US$0.15 per barrel to US$117.76. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) added US$0.30 at US$117.17/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) increased US$0.10 to US$98.23/barrel.
The TSX/S&P Composite Index lost 182.69 points to 20,849.12.
Gold lost US$6.90 per ounce to US$1,864.50.
