Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie falls back

WINNIPEG, Aug. 17 (MarketsFarm) – The Canadian dollar was weaker on Wednesday morning, as the United States dollar was slightly stronger.

As of 8:37 am CDT, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7742 or C$1.2924, compared to Tuesday’s close of US$0.7772 or C$1.2867.

On the United States Dollar Index, the greenback bumped up 0.197 of a point at 106.585.

Benchmark crude oil prices were slightly higher on Wednesday morning

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) advanced 45 cents at US$86.98 per barrel. Brent crude oil added 10 cents at US$92.44 per barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) rose 15 cents at US$67.14 per barrel.

At the open, the TSX/S&P Composite Index stepped back 78.30 points at 20,191.67.

Gold was down US$4.00 at US$1,785.70 per ounce.
