Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie moves up on U.S. Thanksgiving

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar moved slightly upward on Thursday morning.

As of 8:33 a.m. CST, the loonie was at US$0.7895 or US$1=C$1.2667, compared to Wednesday’s close of US$0.7888 or US$1=C$1.2677.

The United States Dollar Index declined 0.13 of a point to 96.75. Most U.S. markets are closed due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Benchmark crude oil prices slipped on Thursday morning. Brent crude oil dipped three cents per barrel to US$82.22. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) dropped US$0.27 to US$78.12/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) retreated US$0.45 to US$58.54/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index gained 67.90 points to 21,616.33.

Gold advanced US$7.20 per ounce to US$1,794.10.
