Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie, oil rise to start week

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar is slightly higher on Monday morning.

As of 8:50 a.m. CDT, the loonie was at US$0.8078 or US$1=C$1.2379, compared to Friday’s close of US$0.8075 or US$1=C$1.2384.

Benchmark crude oil prices jolted ahead to start Monday. Brent crude oil gained US$1.32 per barrel to US$85.04. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) jumped US$1.17 to US$84.74/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) advanced US$1.19 to US$69.05/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index added 104.74 points at 21,141.81.

Gold rose US$5.40 per ounce to US$1,789.30.
