WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar held mostly steady on Thursday morning.
As of 8:35 a.m. CDT, the loonie was at US$0.7935 or US$1=C$1.2602, compared to US$0.7932 or US$1=C$1.2607 when markets closed on Wednesday.
Crude oil was higher on Thursday as refineries along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico continue to recover from Hurricane Ida. Brent crude oil jumped US$1.01 per barrel to US$72.60. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose US$1.20 to US$69.79/barrel. Meanwhile, Western Canadian Select (WCS) rebounded US$1.22 to US$57.49/barrel.
After a record-high close on Wednesday, the TSX/S&P Composite Index gained 91.38 points at 20,780.96 on Thursday morning.
Gold was down US$1.30 per ounce to US$1,814.70.
