WINNIPEG, Dec. 31 (CNS Canada) – The Canadian dollar is down Monday morning as major North American stock markets started the day on a positive note.
At 9:38 CST Monday morning the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7321 or C$1.3653, which compares with Friday’s North American close of US$0.7332 or C$1.3638.
The TSX/S&P Composite Index was up 42.36 points or 0.32 per cent Monday morning at 14,262.343.
United States President Donald Trump said on Twitter “big progress” was made in conversations between himself and Chinese President Xi Jinping over the weekend. That led to the Dow Jones having started Monday up 0.96 per cent, the S&P 500 rose 0.62 per cent and the NASDAQ increased 0.53 per cent.
Oil prices are down Monday morning. West Texas Intermediate crude is at US$45.18 per barrel after closing Friday at US$45.33.
Gold is down Monday morning by US$1.00 to US$1,282.00 per ounce.
