WINNIPEG, March 2 (MarketsFarm) – The Canadian dollar gained four-tenths of cent by market close on Monday, due increases in crude oil prices and on the stock markets.

The loonie finished the day at US$0.7487 or US$1=C$1.3356, which compares with Friday’s close of US$0.7447 or C$1.3429.

Benchmark crude oil prices were stronger on Monday, on expectations the World Bank and some central banks are prepared to bolster the global economy in light of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Fears are the continuing world-wide spread of the illness will curtail consumer demand, hurting the global economy. Also, support came from the strong likelihood OPEC and its oil allies will increase their production cuts by week’s end from 1.70 million barrels per day to 2.45 million.
