WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar gained for the first time in nine days on Wednesday.
The loonie was at US$0.7888 or US$1=C$1.2677 on Wednesday, up from Tuesday’s close of US$0.7870 or US$1=C$1.2707. The United States Dollar Index increased 0.34 of a point to 96.83.
Benchmark crude oil prices slipped on Wednesday. Brent crude oil declined US$0.18 per barrel to US$82.13. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil retreated US$0.22 to US$78.28/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) crude oil dropped US$0.45 to US$58.54/barrel.
The TSX/S&P Composite Index gained 94.66 points to 21,548.43.
Gold recovered some of its recent losses, advancing US$4.70 per ounce to US$1,788.50.
