Agrotain International’s regional manager for north Asia has accepted the recently vacated CEO’s post at Canterra Seeds.

The Winnipeg-based seed breeding company on Thursday named David Hansen to replace Richard Kieper, who resigned from the CEO position in July.

“David’s combination of seed industry knowledge, commitment and global experience make him an excellent choice to lead Canterra Seeds as CEO,” said Ken Nelson, Canterra’s chairman and a retired seed grower now living at St. Albert, Alta.

Hansen previously worked for Zeneca and Advanta Seeds, then as Canadian market manager for Agrotain before a five-year stint in China as general manager for seed firm Delta and Pine Land Co.’s operations there.

Hansen’s appointment as CEO takes effect Oct. 13. Canterra’s chief financial officer Gerry Cantin has filled in as acting CEO since Kieper’s resignation.
