 All markets were rather quiet today as no real news of any relevance was reported to push markets either way so for the most part they drifted lower, because going down is always easier than going up.  

The US dollar fell another three-quarters of a cent today. 

The Canadian dollar finished up .0016 points closing at .9346 US.   

The Dow Jones Sept quote closed up 39 points at 9287.    

Crude oil held steady to up slightly closing up $.55/b at US $71.97/ barrel.

Alberta Crop Report: Rains in the south, dryness in the north

Rain fell onto the southern half of Alberta last week, while hot and dry conditions persisted in the northern half, according to the province’s crop report released on July 18.

Corn closed down 6 to 9 cents a bushel today.       

Beans ended up 4 cents a bushel to 16 cents a bushel today.     

Wheat closed down 10 to 14 cents a bushel on the various US exchanges. 

Minneapolis Sept wheat futures closed down 13 cents a bushel today.      

Canola finished unchanged to down $1 a tonne on the nearby months and up $2 to $8.30 a tonne on the forward futures months. 

Barley closed down $4.70 a tonne at $148.20 a tonne.  

The CWB released the initial prices for the 09-10 crop and they are at traditionally expect levels based as a percentage of the PRO which is in the 65 to 70 per cent range to start the year. 

No. 1 CWRS 12.5 per cent PRO is $262 a tonne, the Initial price is $178 a tonne or 68 per cent of the PRO.

No. 1CWAD 12.5 per cent PRO is $277 a tonne, the Initial price is $183 a tonne or 66 per cent of the PRO.

Malt Barley 2R select Pro is $245 a tonne, the Initial price is $160 a tonne or 65 per cent of the PRO.

All prices are basis delivered Vancouver so you need to deduct freight, and elevator handling charges to get a net in your pocket value.
