Regina’s Western Canada Farm Progress Show will be “presented by Viterra” for its 2008 and 2009 events.

The Regina grain company and the farm technology and equipment show announced a multi-year sponsorship deal Wednesday, making Viterra the “presenting sponsor” for the next two shows.

“The partnership builds on longstanding relationships that were established with Viterra’s former companies, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Inc. and Agricore United,” said Mark Allan, CEO of the Farm Progress Show’s home venue, Ipsco Place (formerly Regina Exhibition Park).

The partnership with Viterra, he said, is another example of Saskatchewan private-sector companies such as Ipsco, Brandt and Saskatchewan Credit Unions choosing Ipsco Place as a venue to showcase their brands. Brandt, a Regina-based ag equipment manufacturer, bought the naming rights to Ipsco Place’s main arena, Brandt Centre (formerly the Agridome), in 2005.

Alberta Crop Report: Rains in the south, dryness in the north

Rain fell onto the southern half of Alberta last week, while hot and dry conditions persisted in the northern half, according to the province’s crop report released on July 18.

The Farm Progress Show bills itself as the largest dryland farm technology and equipment show in Canada, attracting over 40,000 visitors from 30 countries, as well as over 700 farm equipment exhibitors.

Specific terms of the sponsorship deal were not disclosed, although the “presenting sponsor” designation creates a sponsorship tier above the “premium sponsor” and “show sponsor” levels. “Premium” sponsors currently include Farm Credit Canada and Saskferco, among others.

The next two Farm Progress Shows are scheduled for June 18 to 20, 2008 and June 17 to 19, 2009.
