An Abbotsford, B.C. farmer whose operation produces about two million pounds of chicken per year is the new chairman of Chicken Farmers of Canada.
CFC on Wednesday announced the election of its executive committee for 2012, led by chairman Dave Janzen, who grew up in the dairy sector and started his chicken operation at Abbotsford from scratch in 1981.
Janzen, who in 2011 was CFC’s first vice-chair, has been a B.C. representative at the national organization’s meetings since 2006.
Replacing Janzen as first vice-chair is producer Adrian Rehorst of Teeswater, Ont., who raises almost 900,000 pounds of chicken per year and also runs a cow-calf and cash crop operation.
Martin Dufresne, a producer at St-Felix-de-Valois, Que. and former chair of Les Eleveurs de volailles de Quebec, has been re-elected as CFC’s second vice-chair.
Yvon Cyr, a member of the Westco Group of poultry producers at St-Francois-de-Madawaska, N.B., becomes the executive committee’s member-at-large.
The executive committee members are chosen by CFC’s 15-member board of directors.
