Commodity News Service Canada — The Louis Dreyfus canola crushing plant in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, is officially back in operation after an explosion at a meal storage facility in late October forced the plant to close for a number of weeks, says a Dec. 18 statement from the company.
“We are pleased to announce that operations have resumed at the Louis Dreyfus Commodities Yorkton Canola Plant,” said the company, adding “we want to thank our staff and customers for their patience and co-operation during our recent down time.”
Local sources say the plant has been operating at a reduced capacity since the beginning of December.
Louis Dreyfus did not say what capacity it was working at now, but is asking farmers to contact the company for scheduling and contracting needs “as we increase operations to full capacity.”
The Yorkton plant, which opened in 2009, has the capacity to crush 850,000 tonnes of canola per year, producing 350,000 tonnes of oil and 500,000 tonnes of meal.
