CNS Canada – Warm and dry weather helped advance harvest across Manitoba during the week ended Oct. 22, according to the provincial report.
Harvest progress was 91 per cent complete as of Oct. 22, up seven percentage points from the previous week. The spring wheat, barley, oat and dry bean harvests are 99 per cent done. The canola crop is 95 per cent combined, soybeans are at 80 per cent, flax at 75 per cent, corn at 50 per cent and sunflowers at 40 per cent.
Corn, sunflowers and some other crops are coming off the fields with higher moisture contents and are requiring drying. Harvest progress is being determined by the amount of daylight, field conditions and if the crop requires drying.

Varied precipitation and warm temperatures were generally beneficial for crop development across Alberta during the week ended July 8, according to the latest provincial crop report released July 11.
The hemp harvest is underway in the northwest portion of the province. The potato harvest in the central region is 90 to 100 per cent complete depending on the area with yields ranging from 300 to 350 per hundred weight per acre.
Precipitation throughout September and October has helped to improve soil moisture levels heading into the winter. However, there are still some dry patches throughout the province.
Water levels in dugouts are looking low heading into winter. A good snow pack will be needed to replenish them for next year.
