The Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to Alberta’s agriculture and agri-food industry.

“Alberta’s agriculture industry is a vital part of our provincial economy, and at the heart of our rural communities,” said Premier Ed Stelmach. “Agriculture helped to shape our province and is important to the future of all Albertans.”

Every two years, Alberta’s Agriculture Hall of Fame recognizes up to three Albertans whose outstanding leadership, innovation, and business practices have advanced Alberta’s agriculture and food industry at the community, provincial, national or international level.

China seeks improved ties with Canada amid rising trade tensions

China called on Friday for steps to improve bilateral ties with Canada, saying there were no deep-seated conflicts of interest, following a spike in trade tensions with many of Beijing’s Western trade partners this year.

“Innovative farming techniques, scientific accomplishments, creative new value-added products, and many other types of contributions can have a lasting positive impact on our agriculture industry and rural life” said George Groeneveld, Minister of Agriculture and Food.

“I encourage Albertans across the province to nominate the many innovative, hard-working individuals whose commitment to agriculture is making a difference for others.”

The 2008 Inductees will be honoured in Edmonton in October 2008, and inductees will have their portraits and a profile of their contributions displayed in the Alberta Agriculture and Food Hall of Fame located in the J.G. O’Donoghue Building in Edmonton. Since 1951, the Agriculture Hall of Fame has acknowledged 117 men and women who have dedicated their life to agriculture and their rural communities.
