The Canadian arm of off-patent ag chemical firm Nufarm has picked up registration for one of its broadleaf herbicides for use in Ontario winter wheat crops.
Previously for sale and use only on the Prairies for use on broadleaf weeds in spring wheat, spring barley and durum, the Group 4 product Trophy can be marketed now as “big time broadleaf weed control in winter wheat,” as Nufarm’s Eastern Canada sales manager Blair Bossuyt described it.
Trophy is a dual formulation of fluroxypr and MCPA ester and has been “widely used” in the West for the past four years, Bossuyt said.

The product, he said, provides “excellent” control of weeds such as cleavers, vetch and a “full range” of broadleaf weeds. It can also be sprayed on crops five to seven days sooner than other commonly used herbicides, the company said, and has “unparalleled” crop safety.
The product’s registered tank mixes on the Prairies included Achieve, Assert and Puma 120 Super in spring wheat and barley and durum wheat, and Horizon in spring and durum wheat. The company’s recent release didn’t mention any tank mixes registered yet for its use in Ontario winter wheat crops.
