Grain and agrifood firm Parrish and Heimbecker has started work on upgrades that are expected to double storage at one of its elevators in eastern Saskatchewan.
The Winnipeg company on Tuesday said it will put up seven large steel bins at its terminal at Quill Lake, about 60 km east of Humboldt, which will “more than double” its current capacity of 9,000 tonnes.
The bin construction, contracted to Flynn Bros. of Morinville, Alta., is expected to be complete and on line by Nov. 15, the company said, adding the bins “will feature rapid load and unload systems along with aeration and monitoring capabilities.”

Upgrades have already been completed on the facility’s workhouse, including a new distribution and reclaim system and a new, larger dryer, the company said. The plant is already back in operation, the company added.
A Regina company, Stockdale’s, is booked to upgrade the facility’s control and electrical systems, which the company said will provide “better service for our producer customers along with our external milling and export customers.”
The Quill Lake facility currently has a handling capacity of 14,000 bushels per hour loading a 54-car spot linked to Canadian National Railway’s (CN) Margo subdivision.
