Moscow | Reuters –– Russia’s agriculture ministry is considering introducing an export duty for corn and barley, Russian news agency Interfax reported Wednesday, citing First Deputy Minister Evgenii Gromyko.

“We will discuss this question,” he said.

Gromyko added that the question was planned to be discussed at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, who is in charge of the agriculture sector, on Friday.

The agriculture minister has also proposed the government discuss removing or cutting the state’s wheat export duty, Gromyko told reporters in Moscow.

Russia currently has an export tax on wheat exports only. The formula is set at 50 per cent of the customs price minus 6,500 rubles (C$117) per tonne but not less than 10 rubles per tonne.
