An unnamed buyer’s planned $820,000 deal to buy the former Delta Foods maple syrup processing and storage plant at Brockville, Ont. has fallen through.
Toronto produce company Dominion Citrus, which owns the 4.15 acres of property and the site’s two buildings, announced Tuesday that its still-anonymous buyer asked to be released from their agreement “due to an inability to raise satisfactory financing.”
The two buildings, totalling about 44,000 square feet, and the land came into Dominion Citrus’ possession when it bought maple syrup maker Delta Foods International in 2003.

Dominion, which said in September it expected to close the deal early next month, said it will now “continue to market” the now-shuttered facilities.
Dominion, an income trust since 2006, owns produce distributor Bo-Fruits, Toronto companies Meschino Banana Co. and Country Fresh Packaging, and Ontario-based Dominion Farm Produce.
Dominion sold its Delta Foods operations last year and its stake in Humpty Dumpty Snack Foods in 2005. In June alone, Dominion sold its Apple Valley Juice business to Quebec’s Lassonde for $1.54 million, and also sold its lease on two wholesale selling units in Toronto’s Ontario Food Terminal for $3.5 million.
