A cow/calf producer and former Canfax cattle market analyst has taken the helm of Saskatchewan’s new cattle producers’ group.
Keith Robertson, who operates a cow/calf herd at Perdue, Sask., about 60 km west of Saskatoon, has been named CEO of the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association, as of Oct. 26.
Robertson worked for over 15 years in the feedlot industry and for 10 years as a market analyst for Canfax, the marketing arm of the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association. He later worked as executive director of the Manitoba Cattle Producers Association.

More recently, he worked as the public relations and administration manager of Northwest Consolidated Beef Producers, a Strathmore, Alta. marketing company for finished cattle.
“Keith brings a wealth of industry knowledge as well as a host of contacts to the table,” Jack Hextall, the SCA’s chairman and a cattle producer from Grenfell, Sask., said in a release Friday.
“This appointment is one more positive step forward in the development of the SCA and to ensure effective representation of all Saskatchewan producers.”
The SCA was established in January as a cattle industry development commission, funded through levies on sales of beef cattle in the province.
The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association and Saskatchewan Cattle Feeders Association last year both endorsed the planned SCA as an umbrella group to represent the province’s cattle producers.
