A milling firm in Quebec’s Estrie region, supplying organic flour to bakeries and the retail sector, has picked up public funding to expand its presence supplying bakeries.
The province’s agriculture, food and fisheries ministry (MAPAQ) on Monday pledged $95,000 from a support program for management, operations and investments to la Meunerie Milanaise, based at Milan, about 70 km east of Sherbrooke.
The program in question, part of a larger support strategy launched in October last year for the food processing sector, favours projects in which companies can boost their production or develop skills.
According to Megantic-Compton MNA Johanne Gonthier in a release Monday, this funding is specifically meant to help la Meunerie Milanaise develop and bolster its production for the artisanal bakery sector.
Demand for specialty flours in that sector is in a state of constant growth, she said.
