WINNIPEG, Aug. 3 (CNS Canada) – Chicago corn fell for the September, December and March contracts today with settlements at US$3.63.5 for September (down 1.5 cents U.S.), US$3.77.75 for December (down 1.25 cents U.S.) and US$3.89.75 for March (down 1.25 cents U.S.)
Brazil’s corn crop is proving to be huge and a lack of storage is compounding problems. Large piles are being stored in the open air as bins and other storage facilities fill up. Brazil is a top producer of corn worldwide and a large crop there is bound to pull down prices, if it avoids too much spoilage. Muddy roads were also hampering transportation. Brazil’s production for 2016-17 is expected to reach a record 97 million tonnes, said the U.S. Department of Agriculture, although the crop that has yet to be collected from the 2016 harvest may yet pass that estimate.
