WINNIPEG, May 15 (CNS Canada) – Spanish winter grain production will be cut in half this year, hitting only 9.5 million tonnes, according to reports out of the country. While seeded acres were similar to the previous year, drought conditions during the growing season cut into yields.

Canadian barley exports and domestic usage are running right in line with the year-ago pace, according to the latest Canadian Grain Commission data. Barley exports as of May 7, of 900,000 tonnes, compare with 902,000 at the same point the previous year. The CGC placed domestic usage to date at 1.015 million tonnes, which was down by about 35,000 from the same point in 2016.
