Feed Grains: Egypt reinstates zero tolerance ergot ban

WINNIPEG, August 30 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Tuesday, August 30.

– Egypt reinstated its zero tolerance ban on ergot in wheat after lifting it about a month ago, according a Reuters report. Suppliers and traders alike were shocked by the decision to reinstate the ban, and that it will be applied retroactively. Officials gave no reason for the decision.

– Harvest continues in Manitoba, with spring wheat yields in Manitoba ranging from 30 to 90 bushels per acre, and barley yields ranging from 60 to 100 bushels per acre, according to the province’s weekly crop report.
