Feed Grains: EU feed production expected to drop

WINNIPEG, July 5 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Tuesday, July 5.

– The Maschhoffs, the third-largest hog producer in the US, is buying more wheat feed as prices drop, making it an attractive alternative to corn feed, according to reports.

– Animal feed production in the European Union is expected to drop 0.7 per cent in 2016, according to the European Feed Manufacturer’s Federation.

– World barley production in 2016/17 was forecast at 145 million tonnes, according to the International Grains Council. That was up 3.1 million tonnes from an earlier estimate, but below the 147 million tonnes estimate for 2015/16.

– Feed wheat prices dropped from Monday, with Alberta prices lowering eight cents to C$6.31 per bushel and Saskatchewan prices falling 10 cents to C$6.20 per bushel. Manitoba prices remained steady at C$5.75 per bushel.
