WINNIPEG, Sept. 18 (CNS Canada) – Canada is forecast to use 6.033 million tonnes of barley domestically in 2017/18, which would be up from an estimated 5.831 million tonnes in 2016/17 but slightly below an earlier forecast, according to updated supply/demand data from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The government agency estimated barley exports in the current marketing year at 2.150 million tonnes, which compares with 2.339 million the previous year.
The European Union raised its estimate on corn yields to 6.99 tonnes per hectare, which compares with the September estimate of 6.93 tonnes per hectare.
Corn futures at the Chicago Board of Trade were lower on Monday, as seasonal harvest pressure started to weigh on prices.
Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$195 to C$200 per tonne range as of September 15, according to the latest pricing information from the provincial government. Top end feed wheat prices ranged from C$208 to C$225 per tonne in Lethbridge.
