Feed Grains: Grain continues to work its way through Louisiana

WINNIPEG, August 26 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Friday, August 26.

– CBOT corn futures ended around seven cents per bushel lower on Friday as the results of a major US crop tour point towards a massive harvest in the fall.

– Wet weather continues to hamper harvesting efforts in Saskatchewan with just over 10 per cent of the barley crop combined, according to the province’s latest crop report.

– According to the United States Department of Agriculture, while extreme flooding has devastated many parts of Louisiana, there have not been significant disruptions to grain transportation in the Baton Rouge or New Orleans area.

– The International Grains Council has raised its estimate for 2016/17 world production to 2.069 billion tonnes. The hike comes as a surprise to some who thought heavy rains across much of Europe would keep gains in check.

– According to a private crop consultant in the United Kingdom, 60 per cent of the winter wheat is now cut along with one-third of the barley. ADAS notes recent rains have slowed progress a bit.

– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$170-$175 per tonne range as of August 19, which was C$5-$10 lower than the week before, according to provincial reports. Feed wheat prices were in the C$184 to C$2192 range which was down roughly C$15 from the previous week.
