Feed Grains: Lower-than-expected disease damage in MB wheat, barley

WINNIPEG, August 29 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Monday, August 29.

– The number of cereal crops in Manitoba showing disease damage is lower than expected, according to Manitoba Agriculture. Fusarium Head Blight has been a concern due to the abundance of moisture, however winter wheat, spring wheat and barley crops are all showing good quality, with an average fusarium damaged kernel levels.

– Grain farmers in northern Kazakhstan have started harvest, according to reports. As of August 26, 244,690 tonnes of grain had been harvested.

– Wheat harvest in the US is virtually complete, ranging from 90 to 95 per cent harvested between all production areas, according to reports.

– Feed wheat top prices in Alberta fell 41 cents on the week, settling at C$5.31 per bushel, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire. Top prices in Saskatchewan remained steady at C$5.00 per bushel.
