Winnipeg – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Wednesday, December 23.
– CBOT corn futures settled near unchanged on Wednesday, losing three-quarters of a cent in the March contract to settle at US$3.6550 per bushel.
– Algeria imported 12.31 million tonnes of grain during the January to November 2015 time frame, which was up from the 11.35 million imported during the same 11 month period the previous year.
– A lack of snow cover and warmer than normal temperatures are raising the risk of winterkill for wheat crops in Ukraine and much of Europe, especially if temperatures drop quickly, according to reports.

– The US National Corn Growers Association announced the results of its annual corn yield contest, with a Virginia farmer setting a new record of 532 bushels per acre. Five other entries also came in above the 400 per bushel mark, far surpassing the national average yield in 2015 of 169.3 bushels per acre.
– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$215 to C$217 per tonne area as of December 18, according to provincial reports. Feed wheat prices are in the C$226 to C$230 range.
