WINNIPEG, Sept. 27 (CNS Canada) – The harvest in South Australia is underway, marked by the first shipment, a load of barley, at Viterra’s Port Pirie facility. The first load of new crop arrived two weeks earlier than last year. Viterra said about 5.5 million tonnes of export capacity had already been booked by 13 different exporters.
Ukraine has exported more than 9.6 million tonnes of grain in the 2017-18 shipping season. The country’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reported that Ukraine had shipped 5.47 million tonnes of wheat, 2.99 million tonnes of barley and 1.22 million tonnes of corn, according to UkrAgroConsult, an agricultural analysis firm.

Corn futures jumped today on the Chicago Board of Trade despite favourable harvest weather throughout the United States corn belt, which boosted production prospects.
December futures settled at US$3.54.0 per bushel on a heavy trading day with 172,892 units traded. That’s up 1.75 cents U.S. per bu. The March contract closed at US$3.66.75 per bu., up 1.5 cents U.S., and May was up 2.0 cents U.S. per bu. at US$3.75.75 per bu.
