WINNIPEG, Feb. 8 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few
highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on
Monday, February 8.
– CBOT corn futures were weaker on Monday, with the March
contract down 3.50 cents at US$3.6225 per bushel. The corn market was pushed lower by favourable weather in South America and the strength of the US dollar.
– The Western Grains Research Foundation will invest $20 million into wheat breeding and $1.4 million into barley breeding at AAFC Research Centres in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta over the next five years. This represents the largest ever industry investment into research at AAFC, according to the press release.

– Argentina continues to export high protein barley to customers in Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia and Peru. In 2015/16, just under 200,000 tonnes has been shipped with a minimum protein level of 11.5%, according to reports out of Argentina.
– The European Union is expected to have a third successive bumper wheat crop, according to producers’ groups Cop and Cogeca. The farmers’ groups predict the overall EU wheat harvest will come in at 156 million tonnes in 2016.
– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of
Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$208 to C$212 per tonne
area as of February 5, which was C$1-$3 lower compared to the
previous week. Feed wheat prices were in the C$220 to C$232 range, which were roughly the same as the previous week.
