– As drought further entrenches itself across the Horn of Africa, the United Nation’s World Food Programme said on Tuesday that an estimated 13 million people are facing severe hunger. Making matters worse, the long-range outlook has been pointing to below-average rainfall. – Shortly after an emergency debate on Monday evening in the House of Commons, the self-described ‘Freedom Convoy’ shut down the Ambassador Bridge, the major border crossing that links Windsor, Ont. and Detroit. Also, the ongoing trucker protest at the border crossing at Coutts, Alta. sealed off the lanes they previously agreed to keep open. It was the protestors’ reaction to comments made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in which he condemned the ‘Freedom Convoy.’ Also, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh denounced the protests, but interim Conservative leader Candice Bergen laid all of the blame on the shoulders of the Prime Minister.
– Following talks between French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, Macron stated that Putin will not further ramp up tensions with Ukraine over the ongoing border crisis. The French leader also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who called on Putin to reduce tensions in a meaningful way. “I do not really trust words, I believe that every politician can be transparent by taking concrete steps,” stated Zelensky.
