– An agreement was reached amongst numerous countries at the United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP15) in Montreal Monday morning, which they hope would reverse the ongoing loss of biodiversity on Earth. The most significant part of the agreement is a commitment to protect 30 per cent of land and water considered important for biodiversity by 2030. Right now, 17 per cent of terrestrial and 10 per cent of marine areas are protected. The agreement also calls for raising US$200 billion by 2030 for biodiversity.

– After Twitter chief executive officer Elon Musk asked users in a poll on Sunday whether or not he should step down from his role, 58 per cent of the 17.5 million users voted in favour of the move, which Musk himself said he would respect. Since acquiring Twitter on Oct. 27, Musk has had a turbulent time at head of the social media platform, reinstating previously banned accounts while top executives were fired or have resigned. Musk added in subsequent tweets that “there is no successor” and that Twitter “has been in the fast lane to bankruptcy since May”.
– Argentina captured its third FIFA Men’s World Cup title after defeating reigning champions France in a thrilling final 3-3 (4-2 on penalty kicks) in Qatar on Sunday. Argentina’s Lionel Messi solidified his status as one of soccer’s all-time greats with two goals in the final, while also scoring in penalty kicks. France’s Kylian Mbappe scored all three of his country’s goals and also tallied in the tiebreaker.
