– Statistics Canada reported on Friday that Canada’s economy expanded by 0.1 per cent in the month of October, slightly higher than pre-report estimates that the real GDP would remain unchanged. The performing arts, spectator sports and heritage institutions industries grew by 4.7 per cent, while there was a decline in goods-producing industries. An initial estimate for November suggests that the economy would remain unchanged.
– The United States House Jan. 6 Committee released its final report on Thursday evening, which asserts that former U.S. President Donald Trump engaged in a “multi-part conspiracy” to overturn the lawful results of the 2020 presidential election and failed to stop supporters from attacking the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. The panel interviewed more than 1,000 witnesses and held 10 hearings prior to releasing the 845-page report. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote in the report’s foreword that the findings should be “a clarion call for democracy.”

– A severe winter weather system in Eastern Canada hit parts of Quebec on Friday, leaving 189,000 residents without power, cancelling flights and closing schools in the Greater Montreal area.
