- Canadian housing starts were up 14 per cent in September from the previous month, reported the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The seasonally adjusted annualized rate of housing starts at 279,234 beat average pre-report calls from economists predicting 255,000 units.
- Soybean crush data out of the United States topped market expectations on Wednesday, as the National Oilseed Processors Association reported that its members crushed 197.863 million bushels of soybeans in September. That was a record for the month and the fourth-largest monthly total for any month on record.

- The Gaza ceasefire remained shaky on Thursday, with reports of at least three Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers and news that aid trucks were facing limits moving into the embattled territory. Meanwhile, Hamas said it has returned all the hostage remains it could access but would need more special equipment to recover remaining deceased captives.
- Nestle announced it would cut 16,000 jobs, or 5.8 per cent of its global workforce, to cut costs in the face of U.S. tariffs at the world’s largest packaged food company.
