– Statistics Canada reported this morning that the number of job vacancies increased by 12,100 in June to 492,000. By comparison, there was a decline of 37,100 in April and May combined. Year-over-year, job vacancies declined by 59,200 in June. The construction sector saw an additional 4,600 vacancies in June at 39,500. The job vacancy rate in the sector was up from 2.9 per cent to 3.2 per cent. Nationwide, average weekly earnings were up 3.7 per cent at C$1,302 in June year-over-year, compared to a 3.3 per cent increase in May.

– The United States economy grew at a 3.3 per cent annual pace in the second quarter of 2025, the Commerce Department said today, surpassing the department’s estimate of three per cent. IN the first quarter, the economy contracted by 0.5 per cent. Consumer spending was up 1.6 per cent year-over-year, better than 0.5 per cent in the first quarter and slightly higher than the department’s estimate of 1.4 per cent.
– Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv with drones and missiles early Thursday morning, killing at least 15 people and wounding 48 others. The attack was in response to Ukrainian drones starting fires at the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region, as well as the Novokuibyshevsk refinery in the Samara region. Ukrainian forces shot down and neutralized 563 Russian drones and decoys as well as 26 missiles across the country, its Air Force said.
