- Canada added 51,000 jobs in November, although the unemployment rate still increased by 0.3 percentage points at 6.8 per cent, as more people looked for work, reported Statistics Canada. Meanwhile, the United States Labor Department reported 227,000 new workers in November with the U.S. unemployment rate up 0.1 points at 4.2 per cent.
- The results of Romania’s first round of presidential elections have been annulled by the country’s top court amid allegations Russia ran a coordinated campaign to promote far-right candidate Calin Georgescu. The Constitutional Court decision is final and means the electoral process must be rerun. Georgescu was the front runner after the initial first-round of voting.
- South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol is expected to face an impeachment vote on Saturday, as police say they will investigate the leader for claims of treason after he attempted to impose martial law earlier this week.
