- Canadians receiving regular Employment Insurance edged up by 11,000 in February, hitting 388,000, according to a report from Statistics Canada. The unemployment rate held steady at 5.0 per cent. Meanwhile, data out of the United States showed a small increase in initial jobless claims during the past week.
- SpaceX launched its new rocket Thursday morning after an attempt Monday was scrapped due to a frozen valve. The 120-metre Starship rocket is the largest ever built, with plans to eventually use it for sending people and cargo to the moon and Mars.
- Fighting continued in Sudan Thursday, with heavy gunfire reported in the country’s capital of Khartoum as the army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces vie for control of the African nation. There was talk of a possible ceasefire for the Eid holiday, which marks the end of Ramadan.
