Innovation, Science and Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne is going to finance while Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic Leblanc will go to international trade. Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Gary Anandasangaree is to be the new justice minister, while former deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland was offered the role of transport minister. Carney is also expected to work with approximately 15 cabinet ministers, in line with other G7 nations, rather than the more than 30 Trudeau had.

– Ontario Premier Doug Ford said a meeting between Canadian and United States officials in Washington, D.C. on Thursday went “very, very well” and there will be another meeting next week despite no tariffs being removed. Ford added that the meeting with U.S. Trade Secretary Howard Lutnick lasted two hours and was “productive”. Federal ministers Dominic LeBlanc and François-Philippe Champagne, as well as Canada’s ambassador to the U.S. Kirsten Hillman were also part of the Canadian contingent.
– On Friday, China, Russia and Iran demanded the U.S. to end sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program and restart talks over the issue. U.S. President Donald Trump wrote to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei offering the opportunity for new discussions despite Khamenei calling the Trump administration a “bullying government”. Iran is the only country in the world that enriches uranium to near weapons-grade levels of 60 per cent but without nuclear weapons.
