– An 18-year-old gunman killed 19 children and two teachers at an elementary school in Texas on Tuesday, before being killed himself by law enforcement. The attack was the deadliest school shooting in the United States since the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012 and comes as the country continues to grapple with divided opinions on gun control.

– Pfizer has announced plans to supply all its current and future patent-protected vaccines and medicines on a not-for-profit basis to 45 lower income countries. The pharmaceutical company has been accused of profiteering off of the COVID-19 pandemic, with this move announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos part of its “accord for a healthier world.”

– Russian attacks on Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region continued on Wednesday, as the aggressor fired mortars on the twin cities of Lysychansk and Sievierodonetsk. Russian forces are reportedly encircling the Ukrainian-held pocket in an effort to cut off supply routes.
