Global Markets: Deadly earthquake hits Morocco

WINNIPEG, Sept. 11 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

 

  • An earthquake in Morocco over the weekend, hitting 6.8 on the Richter sale, has left nearly 2,500 people dead, in what was the largest disaster for the country in more than 60 years, according to reports. Rescuers continue to work to find survivors in villages near the epicenter southwest of Marrakech.

 

  • North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin sometime this week, after Kim has reportedly boarded a train bound for eastern Russia. While details of the meeting were not available, North Korea is one of the few countries to have supported Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and may be set to sell more weapons to the country.

  • Technical problems with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s plane in India have left Trudeau and the Canadian delegation stranded in New Delhi as a backup aircraft from CFB Trenton is on its way to pick up the group. Trudeau had been in India for the G20 summit.
