- The European Central Bank lowered its key interest rates by 25 basis points on Thursday, citing easing inflation risks. The rate cuts were the third of the past year as the ECB works to bring inflation in line with its 2.0 per cent target.
- An Israeli attack on a school in northern Gaza being used as a UN shelter killed at least 28 people, including children, according to reports. Meanwhile, Israel is investigating if Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed in southern Gaza in a recent attack.
- Canadian investors increased their holdings of foreign securities by C$12.3 billion in August while foreign investors increased their Canadian investments by C$10.0 billion, according to a report by Statistics Canada. As a result, the country saw a net outflow of C$2.4 billion in August. That compares with the inflow of C$6.4 billion reported the previous month.
