– Harvest progress in Saskatchewan continued unabated, said the province’s weekly crop report, advancing 16 points to 84 per cent complete during the week ended Sept. 29. The figure is behind the five-year average of 92 per cent, but above the 10-year average of 81 per cent. Barley was 94 per cent finished, followed by spring wheat and durum at 92 and 91 per cent, respectively. The canola harvest was 71 per cent done.

– Russia fired 60 drones and 35 missiles at natural gas facilities in Ukraine’s Kharkiv and Poltava regions Thursday night, said Ukraine’s air force. Officials said the attacks were an attempt to damage Ukraine’s power grid ahead of winter. Ukraine retaliated by launching long-range drones at the Orsk oil refinery located 1,400 kilometres from the Ukraine-Russia border. A Ukrainian drone attack was also made towards the Azot chemical plant more than 1,500 km east of Moscow.
– Farm Credit Canada said in its latest report this week that Canadian farmland values rose by an average of six per cent in the first half of 2025. Manitoba led all provinces with 11.2 per cent growth, while Alberta and Saskatchewan saw 6.6 per cent and 6.0 per cent growth, respectively. Land values increased 5.5 per cent in the first half of 2024 and added 9.3 per cent for all of 2024.
– The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization’s Food Price Index declined slightly in September at 128.8 points, compared to 129.7 in August. However, prices were 3.4 per cent higher than a year earlier. Sugar and dairy saw the biggest price declines, followed by vegetable oils, cereals and rice. Meat prices increased by 0.7 per cent month-to-month.
