WINNIPEG, Oct. 11 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.
- Humanitarian groups are warning of an impending catastrophe in Gaza as food will likely run out in days and the territory’s power plant has shut down. Hundreds of people are dead on both sides of the conflict, started after Hamas attacked Israel over the weekend and the country retaliated, with thousands more injured and displaced.
- The violence in the region was not contained to the Gaza area, with Israel also trading missile attacks with Hezbollah militants to the north in Lebanon. Israeli shelling reportedly hit southern Lebanese towns on Wednesday while Hezbollah had fired at least two precision missiles into Israel.
- The value of building permits issued in Canada increased by 3.4 per cent in August, hitting C$11.9 billion, according to a report from Statistics Canada. A 14.8 per cent increase in the non-residential sector more than countered the 3.7 per cent decline in residential permits.
